Background
Domestic Violence is an offense under the U.S.C., the Uniform Code of Military Justice, or State Law involving the use, attempted use, or threatened use of force or violence against a person of the opposite sex, or a violation of a lawful order issued for the protection of a person of the opposite sex, who is: (a) A current or former spouse; (b) A person with whom the abuser shares a child in common; or (c) A current or former intimate partner with whom the abuser shares or has shared a common domicile. Domestic abuse is domestic violence or a pattern of behavior resulting in emotional/psychological abuse, economic control, and /or interference with personal liberty that is directed toward a person of the opposite sex who is: (a) A current or former spouse; (b) A person with whom the abuser shares a child in common; or (c) A current or former intimate partner with whom the abuser shares or has shared a common domicile.
The Family Advocacy Program (FAP) is a Command program created to provide, among other things, domestic and child abuse treatment and resources for Service members and their families.

You may also contact the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-7233 or 1-800-787-3224 (TTY). OCONUS personnel can seek assistance from the Americans Overseas Domestic Violence Crisis Center at 1-866-USWOMEN (879-6636).

- National Domestic Violence Hotline (NDVH is a nonprofit organization that provides crisis intervention, information and referral to victims of domestic violence, perpetrators, friends and families. 1-800-799-SAFE (7233))
- National Teen Dating Abuse Helpline (It is a national 24-hour resource that can be accessed by phone or the internet, specifically designed for teens and young adults. The Helpline and loveisrespect.org offer real-time one-on-one support from trained Peer Advocates. Managed by the National Domestic Violence Hotline (NDVH), loveisrespect, National Teen Dating Abuse Helpline operates from a call center in Austin, Texas.)

- Office for Victims of Crime, U.S. Department of Justice (The OVC was established to provide leadership and funding on behalf of crime victims. It provides federal funds to support victim compensation and assistance programs across the Nation and also provides training for diverse professionals who work with victims, develops and disseminates publications, supports projects to enhance victims' rights and services, and educates the public about victim issues.)

- National Resource Center on Domestic Violence (The mission of the NRCDV is to promote, support and enhance the development and implementation of services, policies, public awareness prevention activities and research efforts at national, state and local levels which assure safety and justice for all victims, survivors and others affected by domestic violence. NRCDV is a project of the Pennsylvania Coalition Against Domestic Violence and is funded through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.)
- National Online Resource Center on Violence Against Women (VAWnet) (The mission of VAWnet is to harness and use electronic communication technology to end violence against women. It is funded through a Cooperative Agreement with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and is housed within the National Resource Center on Domestic Violence (NRCDV).)
- National Center on Domestic Violence, Trauma and Mental Health (The Center is a national technical assistance project designed to cultivate a deeper understanding about the mental health and advocacy needs of survivors of domestic violence and their children and the impact of trauma on individual healing and social change. - Family Violence Prevention Fund - endabuse.org (The Family Violence Prevention Fund is a nonprofit organization that works to prevent violence within the home, and in the community, to help those whose lives are devastated by violence. It was instrumental in developing the landmark Violence Against Women Act passed by Congress in 1994.)
- National Network to End Domestic Violence (NNEDV is a nonprofit membership and advocacy organization of state domestic violence coalitions, allied organizations and supportive individuals. It works to to make domestic violence a national priority, provides a range of programs and initiatives, and provides state coalitions with support including training, technical assistance and strategic funding.)
- Resource Center on Domestic Violence: Child Protection and Custody (The Family Violence Department of the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges improves the way courts, law enforcement agencies, and others respond to family violence, while recognizing the legal, culural, and psychological dynamics involved with the ultimate goal of improving the lives of domestic violence victims and their children.

- Encuentro Latino National Institute on Family Violence (Encuentro Latino provides free technical assistance, training, and consultation that is informed through the recommendations of Latino and Hispanic survivors of domestic violence. Their goal is to help providers and others develop capacity to effectively serve Latino clients.)
