Post-Deployment begins with arrival at Home Station (Active Component) or DEMOB Station (Reserve Component), includes actions to recover equipment, personnel and demobilization activities. This phase ends with release from recovery mission (Active Component) or arrival at Home Station (Reserve Component). Post-deployment health activities during this period are described in DoDI 6490.03, Deployment Health, 11 Aug 06 and are based on the deployment type or commander's decision, DoD and Service policies, and actual or potential health threats encountered during deployment. They may include a re-deployment medical briefing and completion of the DD Form 2796 (Post-Deployment Health Assessment) and Enhanced Post-Deployment Assessment Process. At 3 to 6 months after return, the Post-Deployment Health Reassessment Program provides education, screening and a health assessment designed to identify and facilitate access to care for deployment-related physical, mental and re-adjustment concerns that have emerged over time since deployment.
To assist primary care clinicians in evaluating and managing individuals seeking care for potentially deployment-related health concerns and conditions, the DoD/VA Post-Deployment Health Clinical Practice Guideline (PDH-CPG) was developed The Guideline applies to both individuals who have deployed as well as non-deployed individuals who are experiencing health concerns which they consider related to a deployment: e.g., family members of personnel who have deployed.
